The bill proposes to introduce a requirement to indicate on the label of wine production, in distribution on the territory of Russia, information on the country or countries of origin of grapes, grape must or wine, used for beverage production.

This provision is aimed at increasing awareness of consumers about the origin of raw materials for the production of wine, allow the correct selection of products, as well as creating equal competitive conditions for producers of alcoholic beverages from grapes grown in Russia, and those who use foreign raw materials, the report underlines.

"With this approach, we can protect against poor quality wine consumer, which will display information about the origin of not only the beverage itself, but also its foundations. Simply import wine materials, than to lay the vineyards to get a real wine. The new requirement is proposed to enter into force on 1 July 2017, providing manufacturers a transitional period for adaptation.
